"Are You Ready"
Dear Parents, Caregivers and College Community,
As the final weeks of work and assessment approach, we need to ask this question of all our students. We encourage students to look at their effort, consider their progress and, with support from teachers and parents, prepare to complete the Academic year as strongly and successfully as they can.
As I often say to students, final assessments, including exams, are an opportunity to shine, to show off one’s abilities and to finish off the school year on an academic high.
Students need to use all their organisational skills, uphold our school Values, plan their work carefully and avoid distractions at this time of year.
The focus is, as always, on Learning. The sense of urgency is based on the expectation of successful completion of the Year level before promotion to the next.
Parents, please assist your students in planning for their successful completion in the following ways:
Pin up the Exam timetable (which will be issued next week) in a prominent place (i.e. Fridge door) so everyone in the household is aware of it.
Ask your child to list, in their planner, any work still outstanding or overdue in all subjects;
Encourage them to ask teachers for due dates and expect that this work will be completed as homework;
Continue to provide a quiet study space at home;
Talk to your child about Exam preparation and organisation;
Continue to sign the planner and ask to see it as often as you wish.
Teaching staff are discussing the forthcoming exams with students and are providing assistance in study skills and preparations for this mode of assessment.
Of course there are many methods of assessment being used in the generation of end of year reports. One of these will be a written examination. Students will need to learn to prepare for this particular style of assessment, with support and encouragement from school and home.
