"Staffing News and Student Achievement"
Dear Parents, Caregivers and College Community,
Yesterday we held the last Junior & Senior School Assemblies for the year.
At the Junior Assembly my message to students was simple: we believe in you, so be your best, do your best, and expect success. Ms Anastasiou encouraged all students in Years 7 & 8 to go into their final assessments with the best possible preparation and gave information on the Exams. Glenn Frisch and Ashley Triffett of Year 10 gave an entertaining performance as Cool Corey and Stressed-out Stacey, giving our junior students some valuable last minute advice on how to approach exam time.
Today students in Years 7 & 8 commenced their exams and students were able to rise to the challenge admirably. These exams will conclude tomorrow.
The Junior School Assembly was completed by a musical item by Jayne Conte of Year 8.
It is wonderful to know that Ms Anastasiou is being almost inundated by student requests to perform at Assemblies in front of their peers! This aspect of student participation has really
taken off in 2009 and we aim for it to continue.
At the Senior Assembly our guests, Ms Lisa Linton of Mitchell Shire Council and Sgt Jo Jamieson of the Wallan Police represented the Wallan District Community Network
(WDCN).
The WDCN have been working with Mr Neil Aurisch and his Year 10 VisCom class, who were invited to submit designs for the WDCN corporate logo, business card, letterhead and website. Members of the WDCN were impressed by all the student work and shortlisted the entrants down to a final three. These three finalists, Troy Harrison, Maria Ford and Katelin Smith, were presented with certificates of appreciation from the WDCN at Assembly.
Ultimately the WDCN chose Maria Ford’s work, which will be seen in all WDCN correspondence. My congratulations go to all the students involved and my thanks go to the WDCN and to Mr Aurisch, for providing this real, authentic and relevant learning opportunity for all the very talented students in this class.
Finally, Mr Michael Haniff, Pathways Manager and our new VCE Manager, addressed the Assembly and challenged all Year 9 & 10 students to reach their goals.
I encourage all senior students to think about this message, and to think about why they are at school and what they can achieve.
I expect and believe that all our students can, and will, leave each exam with all questions answered/attempted, all sections completed, every area covered and every opportunity for success, in this type of assessment.
When our students are faced with challenges, they demonstrate time and time again, that they can rise to the occasion and do wonderful things.
Students, take this opportunity and finish 2009 as strongly as you can.
We wish all our students well this week and next week.
Ms Wendy Caramarco
